As you can see from the photo above, the Tasty Tapas Float Around of 2010 was a very well attended event. Each station host did a fantastic job providing for the crowd through meticulous planning, offering exquisite hors d’oeuvres, staging a welcoming environment… and if that weren’t enough some even supplied live music, Polynesian dancers and regional attire to entertain and amuse the masses while they munched and mingled.

Virtually every participant expressed their delight and enjoyment and some even inquired why the club doesn’t host more events like this?  Funny they should ask! We have another fun filled, entertaining event coming up on Saturday, September 18th called the Cut Throat Classic / Horsing Around Race!

The event will pit rival teams consisting of three ‘athletes’, each competing in a variety of challenges for a share of cash prizes (think of “Minute to Win It"; "Survivor"; or "The Amazing Race"). Spectators will also vie for prize money by sponsoring and cheering on their three favorite teams to victory.

The afternoon will begin with a social hour where teams will receive competition rules and the crowd will size up the competing teams and choose their favorites. Then the real fun begins witnessing who become the victors and who end up less than victorious. When the dust settles only three teams will achieve a position of win, place or show – however all will end up enjoying a wonderful meal where winners will boast of their success and others will wax warnings of an imminent comeback next year!

We are in need of teams to compete so if you are up for a challenge – have the brawn, brains, and/or finesse to compete in some serious fun challenges (and you know of two other individuals who do to) please contact Lonnie Goulett or Judy Williams for registration details! Deadline for entry is rapidly approaching!

Mouth Water Line Up of Weekend Events

As if the return of warm, sunny weather isn’t enough to get you hungry for some outdoor fun - the Angle Lake area is offering up a Triple Header Treat this weekend.  Entertainment abounds starting off with the Second Annual Tasty Tapas Float Around hosted by the Angle Lake Shore Club this Saturday at 4 PM.  Guests will float to various stations positioned on the East/West arm of the lake where they will enjoy tasty appetizers and delicious drink while mingling with over 100 of their neighbors.

On Sunday at 1:00 PM, the Highline/SeaTac Botanical Gardens will be hosting their annual “Ice Cream Social and Plant Sale” with special guest Ciscoe Morris (pssst – they’re offering FREE ice cream to the first 300 guests – so get there early!).  The membership drive and fund raiser will be full of fun, treats and door prizes.

And finally at 5:00 PM, the City of Seatac will be serving up a real treat as the Music in the Park Series continues. Musical guest Ranger and the Re-Arrangers will be dishing out some delightful Gypsy Style Jazz.  This band evokes the spirit of a Paris cafe or a Gypsy campsite with their unique twist on “gypsy jazz.” Intriguing melodies played vigorously on stringed-instruments give them an acoustic, driving sound; their hand drummer adds a world rhythm beat. The band features two outstanding jazz improvisers, Ranger on violin and Dave Stewart on mandolin. The band’s repertoire includes swing standards, traditional Gypsy melodies, the music of Django & Grappelli, Brazilian choros, and some unique originals.

The weather will be great, so get out there and get your fill of some mouth watering entertainment.

Tasty Tapas Float Around

If you have not yet signed up for the late summer lakeside main event, the Tasty Tapas Float Around, you must act now to reserve a spot otherwise you may very well miss the boat as seats are filling quickly! This event is scheduled for August 14th, starting at 4 PM SHARP and runs until 8:30 PM. Open to ALSC Members Only and their invited guests. Cost is $15 per person.

This event has proven to be an evening full of fun, food, and a great opportunity to meet with neighbors and make new friends. Participants will be assigned to start at one of four dinning stations set up around the lake for guests to visit but only by boat. Each of the four locations will present a themed selection of appetizers and liquid libations to tickle your taste buds. Throughout the evening at set intervals, groups will receive a signal to depart for another station until all four stations have been visited. But be sure to pace yourself and save room for the grand finale, a fifth station where all participants will come together to enjoy a bonfire, dessert and coffee where all can mingle.

All are encouraged to take your own boat around the course (No drinking and driving please!) For those who do not have a boat, cannot find a ride or require assistance there will be pontoon boats acting as taxis to ferry tasters from stations to station. If you require a pickup please call Jim Todd at 206-226-9965 or emailing him at jimmjett@gmail.com.

Where are Leash Laws In Effect?

A neighbor recently wrote to the blog asking if the City of Seatac has an enforceable leash law.  In general, leash laws are in effect in all urban areas in King County. It doesn’t matter whether the urban area is part of a city or in unincorporated King County, the leash laws apply. Urban areas are defined as lot sizes of 15,000 square feet or smaller. The leash laws are not in effect in the rural areas of King County. In those areas, the dogs must be under voice control.

The writer also inquired about excessive noise from neighboring pets. If you are encountering issues with someone else's pet, the King County web page requests that you please read tips about communicating with the pet owner (PDF) before you submit a complaint.
Complaint submittal options:
1. Fill out, and e-mail a completed complaint form (PDF) to: pets@kingcounty.gov.
2. Call 206-296-PETS (7387), ext. 24, Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
3. Download, print and mail or FAX the complaint form (PDF) to:

Tuesday August 3rd is National Night Out

The "27th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010. We cordially invite you and your community to be a part of the NIGHT OUT 2010 team.

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:
  • block parties,
  • cookouts,
  • visits from local police and sheriff departments,
  • parades, exhibits,
  • flashlight walks,
  • contests, and
  • youth programs.
NNO has proven to be an effective, inex;pensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

You are encourage to meet with your neighbors, talk about issues and crime activities effecting your neighborhood and together with local law enforcement brainstorm ideas on how best to collaboratively tackle these safety concerns.
