Take Care In What You Wish!

"I made a wish that I was to be happy. Now I live in a cottage with six other dwarfs and work in a mine."

Have you noticed a curious object floating about in Angle Lake recently? Several inquiries had been received here at Blog Central, so we decided to set forth in search of answers about this spectacle.

Our first turn was toward our resident art enthusiast Jim Todd to see if he had any intel about the object. Jackpot! It seemed Jim had the answers. In his quick reply, he stated, "If one got close enough to it, you'd find it to be the Angle Lake Wishing Well (with any proceeds collected will be given to local charities)."

Jim confirmed that he is responsible for managing this installation by sharing, "It's going to wherever the wind blows. It has a 20' anchor line, so it shouldn't get too close to anybody's beach. I will venture out every couple of days to see if it needs repositioning."

When asked about the intended purpose of the installation, in addition to raising funds to give to charity, Jim commented, "I also hope my wishing well gives some folks a little smile. Smiles are good."

Tapas Returns for a 13th time!

Tasty Tapas – Saturday, August 6th.

If you have not yet signed up for the Tasty Tapas Float Around, our late summer main lakeside event, you must act now to reserve a spot. Otherwise, you may miss the boat as seats fill quickly! The fun starts at 4 PM SHARP and runs until 8:00 PM. Open to ALSC Members Only and their invited guests. The cost is $30 per person.

In years prior, Tapas had been visited by Gilligan and his fellow castaways; Cleopatra returned from the dead to join us with her minions; a group of gondoliers gathered to give out goodies to arriving guests, and even a Tropical Island populated with Pacific Islanders floated onto the scene – one can only imagine who, or what, might show up this year!

Tasty Tapas has proven to be an evening full of fun, food, and an excellent opportunity to meet with neighbors and make new friends. Participants will be assigned to start at one of four dining stations set up around the lake for guests to visit only by boat. Each of the four locations will present a themed selection of appetizers and liquid libations to tickle your taste buds. Throughout the evening, at set intervals, groups will receive a signal to depart for another station until all four stations have been visited. Be sure to pace yourself and save room for the grand finale fifth station, where all participants will come together to enjoy a bonfire, nibble on desserts, and mingle with a cup of coffee.

You are encouraged to take your boat around the course (No drinking and driving, please!) For those who do not have a boat, cannot find a ride, or require assistance, there will be pontoon boats acting as taxis to ferry tasters from station to station. If you need a pickup, please contact Jill Carroll at (206) 679-6705.

PLEASE NOTE: Recognizing that the ALSC, a non-profit neighborhood based organization run solely on a volunteer basis, will do its best to ensure a safe experience. It is important to understand that participation by any member(s) or non-member(s) in any activities sponsored by the ALSC is done so at the participants own risk.

What's SUP on the the 4th of July?

SUP is a common acronym that stands for Stand-Up Paddle Boarding. SUP is an outdoor water sport that uses both a board and paddle.

And this year, the Shore Club is hosting a Stand-Up Paddle Board Poker Run! The race begins at the DINOSAUR located at Petitt Beach with a shotgun start promptly at 2:00 PM
All Paddle Board participants are welcome.

What is a Poker Run?

The objective is for all participants (aka players) to paddle to each of the five stations and collect cards to make up a five-card poker hand. In the end, the player with the best hand wins and will be awarded a coveted trophy!

Rules of Play

  • All players will meet at the starting point and leave simultaneously.
  • Players may visit any one of the four stations in any order they choose.
  • Players will be given one randomly drawn playing card at each stop.
  • Players must visit all individual stations to complete the game.
  • The first THREE players to return to the starting (ending) point will receive one extra card to improve their chances at the best hand.
  • The player with the best five-card hand wins!
If you have a board, bring it!
Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!
