Got Barges?

Yes we do!  I am awestruck in what this community has accomplished. In my opinion it is a rare instance to see a neighborhood of our size venture into a project of complexity and magnitude with complete and full collaboration - let alone successfully deliver what they set out to do. It is truly amazing that this supportive community and many talented volunteers delivered a complete set of commercial quality barges as planned for the purpose of becoming the launch point for the Angle Lake Fireworks show for generations to come!

Seen here, three of the seven barges connected.
I’m happy to report that the community effort to raise all funds necessary for the purchase of materials and the small army of volunteers who labored many hours constructing the Fireworks Barges has successfully completed the job in creating assets that are estimated at having a collective commercial value of over $60,000!

This is yet another clear indication and example of the great community in which we live in!

What’s Next:
The next phase is to design and develop an anchoring system to secure the barges into position when deployed. This is an essential element for performing a fireworks show from the center of the lake. The Club is actively seeking individual(s) from within our community who can lead and orchestrate this effort. If you have or can refer someone who has experience in this area, please contact the Shore Club at anglelakesc@gmail.com

A separate team is already forming with the goal of developing a process for routinely collecting and assembling two or more of the barges for deployment in all types of occasions. Besides using the assembled collection of barges for the 4th of July Fireworks Show, other deployments may include using them as gathering points for: ‘Socials at the ‘El’; as a log boom for the Hydroplane races; or a spectator platform for the Annual Blue Water Aquatics Swim Races.

Just imagine, evening socials at the El like this - but bigger!
Independency Day:
While plans and procedures for mobilizing and anchoring the barges remain outstanding, we are unable to support a fireworks show being performed at the Elbow. I am pleased to report that the SeaTac Parks Department will again host the fireworks display on Angle Lake launched from the Public Docks again this year. As has occurred in prior years, this will require that the swim area, beach, hillside and boat ramp will be off limits for public access and allows producing a smaller display using shells no larger than 3” due to the confined and control space.

If the club is able to finalize mobilizing and anchoring operations there is a possibility of enacting PLAN B which includes anchoring the barge collection off the Goulet Beach on July 4th. Then a group of pontoon boats can be scheduled to travel the Northern Leg gathering residents with lawn chairs and blankets and ferry them to and from the platform for viewing the 2017 fireworks show up close. More details will be shared later in June.

This is still only a concept at this time but we’d appreciate hearing any feedback from you on this idea!  Please submit your comments to the Blog Email at anglelakesc@gmail.com.
