The City of SeaTac is evaluating the current level of quality high speed, highly available, broadband service and wants to know what kind of Internet Access you have at your home or business to help identify that your area is adequately served. Please take 5 minutes to give us your feedback!

If during the recent ‘Snowmageddon’ you were counted among the many that were lucky enough to be approved to work remotely from home via local internet access, it’s great to be you!  However, if you found yourself suffering from sporadic or slow internet service, well I’m sure that feeling of greatness slipped away quickly and you often found yourself ready to risk life and limb to get to your place of work to connect to faster access! If so, we’d like to hear from you!  Even if working from home was not an option or you have no internet access at all or you had no problem connecting, we still want to hear from you as well.

By providing feedback about your broadband access at home or work with this simple survey, you are helping your community understand if there is a need for broadband infrastructure investment in your area. Please help by informing your neighbors that this quick survey is purely informational and is the best way to let the leadership in your area know what your internet needs are. There is no commitment, and your personal information will never be shared. Simple fill out the survey online and the city will tally the results to help form their decisions.

* WHAT...Additional snowfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected through midday. This will be on top of the 8 inches that have already accumulated in the area. North winds will increase today to 15 to 30 mph with a few gusts to 40 mph. The wind may reduce visibility at times due to blowing snow, especially near shorelines of the inland waters.

* WHEN...Until 4 PM PST Saturday. Snowfall will slowly taper off today.

Recommended Actions: A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel call check for the latest road conditions in Washington state, call 5 1 1. Traveling within SeaTac please refer to the Snow Plow Priority Map and list of Road Closures before you leave.

Periodic Update: Shoreline Master Plan

The City of SeaTac is conducting a periodic review of its SMP as required every eight years by the Shoreline Management Act. For more information on the update and to become involved, please see the City’s Shoreline Update Page.

What is a Shoreline Master Program (SMP)?

A Shoreline Master Program (SMP) is a set of policies and regulations required by state law that has three basic principles:

• Encourages reasonable and appropriate development of shorelines with an emphasis on water dependent uses, which when developed are consistent with the control of pollution and prevention of damage to the natural environment, such as docks, marinas, and recreational facilities, or industries and commercial uses that require a shoreline location and support economic development; and,
• Protects the natural resources and character of the shorelines, the land, vegetation, wildlife, water, and aquatic life within shoreline environment; and,
• Promotes public access and provides opportunities to enjoy the aesthetic qualities of the natural shorelines and recreational activities in shoreline areas.

Where does this apply?

“Shorelines of the state” include rivers and streams with mean annual flow more than 20 cubic feet per second, lakes 20 acres or larger, and all marine shorelines. Shorelines of the state in SeaTac include only Angle Lake. The shoreline jurisdiction extends 200 feet landward of the lake’s edge. There are no documented critical areas along the lake or natural streams which flow in or out of the lake.

Timeline
The following is a general timeline including anticipated public participation opportunities. SeaTac will coordinate with the Department of Ecology throughout the process. A detailed timeline will be posted on the periodic review webpage.

Block Watch Update

SeaTac Police Department Community Service Officer, Sana Wight, is seeking to update the Block Watch Captain and Neighborhood Leader Directory with current contact information. In addition to updating the records, CSO Sana is looking to invite neighborhood leaders to an upcoming Block Watch get together scheduled for February 21st at 6:00 PM to share program information, updates and to confirm which neighborhoods are in need of new Block Watch Signs.
