Mid-Year Check Point

In addition to the regular responsibilities for planning, coordinating and executing our Annual Club and Community Events, the Angle Lake Shore Club Board is including focus on two additional goals this year:
  • Bringing a major fireworks display back to the center of the lake.
  • Getting younger families with children involved in lake activities.

The following is a status report on how the board is making progress toward the above two goals:
  • Firework Barges
The club has received donations from our members that put the total funds raised to date at just over 70% of our targeted goal of $24,000. While efforts will continue to raise the remaining funds needed (see our GoFundMe page), design and build tasks are now underway.

Jonathan Standridge has volunteered to manage the overall schedule to ensure that the project is completed in time for the planned 2017 fireworks show. A build site has been secured, potential build managers have been identified, and additional volunteer laborers are being requested. The team plans to have the first barge complete and available for use for the upcoming Lake Bottom Clean Sweep scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd.
  • A New Family Event
While the latest newly added events have achieved success in drawing out the younger members in particular (the Easter Bunny Dock Hop; the Halloween Spook-tacular Boo Cruise) the board continues to consider ideas that cater to family members of all ages.  An event opportunity we feel achieves this goal is the ONE TIME trial run of the small junior series hydroplane races.

If approved, the Seattle Outboard Association, a club who has been in operation for over 80 years, will be entirely responsible for race operations including insurance coverage and safety personnel.

The event hosts encourage lakeside residents to invite family and guests over to watch the races from their homes, while also welcoming all spectators the opportunity to visit the pits to witness the activity up close and meet the racers at the park.

The two day race event is planned for September 10th and 11th. Racing will be limited between the hours of 11 am and 6 pm. This event is still subject to approval by the City of SeaTac Council.

Updates will continue to be posted periodically on the Angle Lake Shore Club as status changes.
