Big Changes in the Neighborhood!

Over the past few days, we’ve received notice that no less than four member families are selling their homes and relocating outside our community. 

All of these families, each in their own way, have had a significant impact on our neighborhood. I’d like to express appreciation for having had the pleasure of their presence in our community. I’m also supplying hotlinks to their property listing in hope that remaining neighbors will encourage other wonderful families to consider a move to Angle Lake and to become active members in our community.   

The Bells. During their time here, they’ve invested enormous time and energy upgrading this colonial style home both on the inside and as well as the abundant flowering beds and impeccably maintained grounds. The Bells had hosted the ALSC Christmas party previously and brought family to participate in many of the ALSC Club events.

The Minnihans. When first locating to our community, they moved into a home with spectacular ‘Twin Views’ of the Lake and of the Kent Valley feature Mount Rainier in the background! They have since converted the site to feature a wonderful customer built home with many, many unique features. The Minnihan’s had for many years hosted the ALSC 4th of July Swim and Boat Races and also hosted the Christmas Party in their recently built home.

The Becks. Once a bare piece of property, when Mrs. Beck saw Mt Rainier presiding over the lake view she immediately knew she wanted her next home here! A custom built, spacious home with rich features gives this residence a warm and comfortable environment to live in. Both have been previous members of the Angle Lake Manor HOA leadership team and have participated on the ALSC Board almost as long as they’ve lived here. They have been extremely generous in giving of their time toward the community and for bringing new event ideas to the club.

The Langs. This family is among the elite that can nearly be considered ‘pioneer members’ of the club having moved here in the 50s including serving as president of the ALSC. The Langs have the dubious honor of being recognized as the go to folks for the BIG A$$ coffee pot featured at our ALSC events! The home they are leaving has grown in synch with the growing number of Lang family members.  Sitting on a nearly ¾ acre lot there is still plenty of room to enjoy outside this spacious home.

Each of these families will be sorely missed however we wish them the absolute best in the next chapter of their lives.  We hope that you’ll consider a return visit during any of our future ALSC events.

Let's Kick Some Trash!

It's time to get tough on the litter cluttering our streets and shoreline!

Members from the Angle Lake Community will gather at the public park boat launch at 9 am to collect pickers, trash bags, gloves and instructions before setting out for the annual Angle Lake Clean Sweep Volunteer Event! 

DATE: Saturday, July 22nd

EVENT: 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM

VOLUNTEER LUNCH AND RAFFLE PRIZE DRAWING 

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING

The City of SeaTac Parks and Recreation Department will be issuing garbage bags and collection tools to the group to assist in their effort to scour the public spaces on the southwest end of the lake to rid the area of the litter. If you've traveled this end of the lake you might have noticed the positive impact the team had on the area last year but an enormous job still remains to gather all the trash remaining and new trash that has accumulated in this area. However, the more hands that turn out to help the fewer burdens this will be on each of us individually.

The volunteers will be split up into groups where walkers will be assigned to concentrate on picking up litter in the streets, on shore and along the beach, while waders and snorkelers will be committed to clearing the shallow water of trash and the adventurous individuals decked out in full scuba gear will gather debris from the deep!

TERRESTRIALS: Volunteers who like it dry picking up trash on land or along the beach
	AMPHIBIANS: Volunteers who prefer it a little wet!  Wade and/or snorkel in the shallow waters recovering debris
AQUANAUTS: These folks do it deeper! Fully outfitted scuba divers will comb the lake bottom for garbage of any size.

Although the bulk of organized effort will be focused mainly on the SW end of the lake, it is not our intent to discourage residents from taking their own initiative in collecting litter from their area and bringing it to the park boat ramp prior to 12:00 noon where the City will assist in disposing of it. Immediately following the event, participants will gather at the Manor Club Private Beach where the Angle Lake Shore Club will serve up lunch as a display of appreciation for their volunteer efforts. We'll also have a Raffle drawing for prizes – must be present to win.

This is a good opportunity to get outdoors to enjoy some nice weather, teaming up with your neighbors in doing great things for the community and receiving a free lunch and possibly winning a valuable prize!

What's Happening in the 'Hood?

Many of us on Angle Lake have our weekend calendars filled with planned activities for ON and/or IN the water. Here are a couple mid-week alternative events happening just OFF the lake for you to consider to keep the kids (and grown ups!) entertained!

The Storm is Coming our Way!

On June 14 at 6:00 PM in the Tyee Educational Complex gymnasium, the Seattle Storm Professional Women’s National Basketball team will hold an open community practice, free to the public. Their 2017 visit marks an unprecedented fourth consecutive year the team has brought this ever popular family fun event to SeaTac. It is a chance to watch the team practice, 6 - 14 year old girls and boys participate in drills with the players, and participate in some games! Parents will have an opportunity to take photos with and get autographs from some of the world's best women basketball players including Sue Bird. And you’ll not want to miss the high jinks that prevail whenever team mascot Doppler is in the house!

Promoted as “One of the Pacific Northwest’s greatest instrumentalists” and a recognized master of many styles, Seattle Guitarist Scott is one of the few guitarists in the world today that can easily transition from jazz to electric blues, classical to rock, funk and fusion displaying fluid technique and virtuosic ability in all genres. He’ll be entertaining crowds at The Plaza at Angle Lake Stations on Wednesday, June 14th from 5:30 until 7:00 PM, there’s no admission charge, free for all to attend!

Get Soaked at the Spray Park

The Crowd Favorite Mega Soaker

Come, if you dare, to endure a drenching from the Mega Soaker, a 55 gallon container that fills with water and spills over onto the surface and anyone underneath at regular intervals every few minutes. The spray park features numerous spray nozzles for kids to run through and play in. This is safe and fun alternative way to cool off at Angle Lake Park, suitable for all ages and all abilities. Hours of operation are from 11:00 am until 8:00 PM. Suitable for all ages and all abilities!

Lake Weed Watchers

The King County Noxious Weed Control Program is extending an invitation to all Angle Lake Residents to attend a free training program to help prevent the spread of noxious weeds in our lake.

2017 Lake Weed Watcher Training

Monday, June 19, 2017 (6:30 pm – 8:30 am)

The Lake Weed Watcher Program trains volunteers to survey for aquatic weeds in small lakes in King County, Washington. Volunteers are trained to identify both native and non-native aquatic plants.  The goal of the project is to watch for populations of invasive weeds that are not currently known to occur in King County or that have a very limited distribution, but have the potential to spread and cause damage.  Detecting these weeds early allows us to stop them before they get too entrenched to remove.

Attend the Free Training to learn:

• How to identify aquatic weeds and native plants 
• How to do a lake survey and submit data 
• How fun it is to be a Lake Weed Watcher!

Volunteers need to provide:

• A small boat (e.g. canoe) and a place to launch it (if you don't live on a lake you use the public boat ramp at Angle Lake)
• Personal flotation device (PFD) and any other required water safety equipment
• Ability to attend this one training session
• Approximately one field day in early July and one field day in late August or early September

The majority of the session be in the “classroom” however will also include time at the waterfront at the end of the training for more plant ID and equipment use training.
