Meet the City Manger

SeaTac Interim City Manager, Todd Cutts has scheduled a meeting with the residents of the lake community during the next Angle Lake Manor Community Club meeting.  Todd will provide an overview of the various City activities and will gather comments and suggestions from the floor.

When: May 4th at 7:00 PM

Where: Beck Residence 19244 – 39th Ave So.

This is a great opportunity to learn firsthand of how your city is continuously striving to improve the quality of life for all residents and this is a wonderful social opportunity to become better acquainted with your neighbors from all sides of the lake.     

Fishing Derby - April 25th

The finishing touches are being pulled together in preparation for the 2010 ANGLE LAKE FISHING DERBY.  Pleasant mild weather is in the forecast for this Sunday and we expect some nicely sized fish coming in to be measured.

Lunch, Awards and Raffle Drawings 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM

As in year's past, we'll offer coffee, muffins and donuts on the beach at 7:00 am and host a barbecue lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs beginning around 11:30 am.  Derby winners will be announced, prizes will be awarded  and drawings for the numerous raffle prizes will be done in the early afternoon. We will also be selling T-shirts, caps and other items on the day of the Derby. 

In an effort to increase raffle ticket sales we are implementing a few new ideas. First look for more raffle prizes. This year our prizes will consist of two (2) tickets for this year’s ALSC Christmas Party, four (4) tickets to this year’s Tasty Tapas, Bowling Party gift certificates (generously donated by Pat and Val Johns owners of the Hi-Line Bowling Alley) and a grand prize being a nice spotting scope with tripod.

Next, look for some special deals in buying your raffle tickets. If you purchase $5 worth of tickets you’ll get 1 free ticket. Buy $10 and receive 5 free additional tickets and finally if you buy $20 you’ll get 20 free additional tickets.  While only one (1) raffle ticket per person is required to enter into the drawing, participate in the fishing derby with the first prize for biggest trout set at $100 plus indulging in all scrumptious food being served. We urge you to buy as many tickets as possible not only to increase your chances of winning one of the great prizes offered but also to help financially support this event.

Yard Debris Collection Event

If during all this mild weather you've spent your time preparing your garden, cleaning out those flower beds, pruning your trees and bushes and now your left with piles of yard waste, don't fret because you're in luck!  

The City of SeaTac is hosting another free collection event

Free to residents; must show proof of residency

Have your grass, leaves and branches composted for free.  Limit 3 vehicle loads per household.  No rocks, sod or dirt.  No materials larger than 4 inches by 8 feet long.  See the event flier for complete details of what is and is not accepted.

What Is That Aweful Smell?

As many have no doubt noticed, starting last Saturday and continuing through today the appearance of the water on Angle Lake has been very murky with a strong fishy odor emanating from the lake.  The source of both of these concerns is attributed to a large algae bloom in the lake.

Algae blooms are naturally occurring phenomena, even though they may have never occurred on the lake before. These blooms result from the right combination of factors being present on the lake (i.e. the right temperatures and quantities of nutrients in the lake). City of SeaTac storm water compliance staff have spoke to King County lake ecology staff and they agree that this bloom is likely a continuation of the last algae bloom that occurred approximately eight weeks ago. Test results have come back from County resources and all three samples taken from the around the lake show the condition to be a Uroglena algae colony.

The good news is that the results indicate that the algae are dying off quickly – County officials predict the problem could be gone by the end of the week. The bad news is that the odor will persist during the dying off period.

Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA

The Matt Griffin YMCA will be hosting "Healthy Kids Day" on Saturday, April 17th from 10am-1pm. This free Health Fair, open to the public, will offer games, activities and health resources, along with live performances!  Free Healthy Kids Day t-shirts offered to the 1st 100 youth.  Plus special appearances by Massive Monkees as seen on America's Best Dance Crew and have your photo taken with the Rat City Roller Girls!  

Matt Griffin YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day

Saturday, April 17th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Healthy Kids Day is more important than ever this year. The amount of time American children and teens spend watching TV, playing video games and surfing the Internet has increased dramatically – to nearly eight hours a day. Experts say that school-age kids need at least one hour of physical activity every day to be healthy – an amount which nearly two-thirds of our nation’s youth are not getting.
