Who Will Win The Top Prize of $450.00?!

THE HORSES ARE AT THE STARTING GATE,
AND ......     THEIR OFF!!!
Sound familiar?  Well on September 18th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm we have a day at the races planned for your enjoyment as kind of our ‘farewell to summer’ picnic and lakeside community social.

We’ve talked about it, planned for it and now within just a few short weeks members and guests alike will be able to participate in our ANGLE LAKE CLASSIC ‘HORSE ‘N’ AROUND RACE’ where 10 'horses', or teams will compete for a total purse of $750.00.  A total of up to 10 teams, after paying an entry fee of $50 per team, will begin competing in the first of five various events designed to eliminate one or more teams per event until only 3 teams remain to compete in the last event to share in a total purse of $750.00 paid out to our WIN ($450), PLACE ($225) and SHOW ($75) finishers.   Teams may sign up by contacting Lonnie Goulet at (206) 878-8306.

And the fun isn't limited to just those competing.  For everyone who wants to not only cheer your favorite team on, you will also have the opportunity to place a wagers on any of the teams with our volunteer resident 'bookie'.  Bets will be taken before race day over the phone by Julie Hill at (206) 355-6460 and also on the day of the event, beginning at 11:00 am, at our betting booth where odds will be posted every 15 minutes up until race time.  Sorry but you must be 21 or older to place wagers.

In addition to team competitions and friendly wagering, we’ll be serving up hamburgers and hot dogs all day along with other tasty side dishes.  Plus there will be a non-hosted bar where you can purchase your drink of choice, including non alcoholic beverages for the kids.

Event location will be announced within the week, along with the teams and their number assignments.  If you're interested in volunteering to help there will be a need for judging, cooking (hamburgers and hotdogs), food service, event setup, etc.  Call Lonnie Goulet for more details.

For the "L" of it!

During the August 25th ALSC Board Members Meeting, filed under new business, Vice President Jim Todd submitted the following proposal for a new (old?) Lake Community Social Hour:
Each Friday evening through the month of September between the hours of 6 and 8 PM, we'd like to invite anyone interested to grab their choice of refreshing beverage(s); any snacks they care to share and steer their watercraft out to the center of the lake for a two hour social.  Weather permitting, of course.

Please leave a comment about this idea, else come on out and introduce yourself to whoever may be anchored out there in the middle of the "L". Party barges and their captains are especially encouraged to join in making a  floatilla!

Children's Theater in the Park

Miss Dolly is one of the biggest longhorn cowfish and sea horse ranchers in Starfish Canyon. But times have been hard and she’s had one problem after another. Now Miss Dolly is up to her gills in debt to the shady banker, Morrie Eel. Can Sheriff Trey Triggerfish save the day?  Kids can find out in “Showdown at Starfish Canyon” by Last Leaf Theater Productions on stage at Angle Lake Park this Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The show is approximately 45 minutes in length and will be followed by a brief visit with the actors to sign autographs or answer questions. The plays are interactive and appropriate for young audiences between ages three and twelve - but are designed to engage and entertain parents and older children as well.  Come enjoy live theater in the park with your family.

As you can see from the photo above, the Tasty Tapas Float Around of 2010 was a very well attended event. Each station host did a fantastic job providing for the crowd through meticulous planning, offering exquisite hors d’oeuvres, staging a welcoming environment… and if that weren’t enough some even supplied live music, Polynesian dancers and regional attire to entertain and amuse the masses while they munched and mingled.

Virtually every participant expressed their delight and enjoyment and some even inquired why the club doesn’t host more events like this?  Funny they should ask! We have another fun filled, entertaining event coming up on Saturday, September 18th called the Cut Throat Classic / Horsing Around Race!

The event will pit rival teams consisting of three ‘athletes’, each competing in a variety of challenges for a share of cash prizes (think of “Minute to Win It"; "Survivor"; or "The Amazing Race"). Spectators will also vie for prize money by sponsoring and cheering on their three favorite teams to victory.

The afternoon will begin with a social hour where teams will receive competition rules and the crowd will size up the competing teams and choose their favorites. Then the real fun begins witnessing who become the victors and who end up less than victorious. When the dust settles only three teams will achieve a position of win, place or show – however all will end up enjoying a wonderful meal where winners will boast of their success and others will wax warnings of an imminent comeback next year!

We are in need of teams to compete so if you are up for a challenge – have the brawn, brains, and/or finesse to compete in some serious fun challenges (and you know of two other individuals who do to) please contact Lonnie Goulett or Judy Williams for registration details! Deadline for entry is rapidly approaching!

Mouth Water Line Up of Weekend Events

As if the return of warm, sunny weather isn’t enough to get you hungry for some outdoor fun - the Angle Lake area is offering up a Triple Header Treat this weekend.  Entertainment abounds starting off with the Second Annual Tasty Tapas Float Around hosted by the Angle Lake Shore Club this Saturday at 4 PM.  Guests will float to various stations positioned on the East/West arm of the lake where they will enjoy tasty appetizers and delicious drink while mingling with over 100 of their neighbors.

On Sunday at 1:00 PM, the Highline/SeaTac Botanical Gardens will be hosting their annual “Ice Cream Social and Plant Sale” with special guest Ciscoe Morris (pssst – they’re offering FREE ice cream to the first 300 guests – so get there early!).  The membership drive and fund raiser will be full of fun, treats and door prizes.

And finally at 5:00 PM, the City of Seatac will be serving up a real treat as the Music in the Park Series continues. Musical guest Ranger and the Re-Arrangers will be dishing out some delightful Gypsy Style Jazz.  This band evokes the spirit of a Paris cafe or a Gypsy campsite with their unique twist on “gypsy jazz.” Intriguing melodies played vigorously on stringed-instruments give them an acoustic, driving sound; their hand drummer adds a world rhythm beat. The band features two outstanding jazz improvisers, Ranger on violin and Dave Stewart on mandolin. The band’s repertoire includes swing standards, traditional Gypsy melodies, the music of Django & Grappelli, Brazilian choros, and some unique originals.

The weather will be great, so get out there and get your fill of some mouth watering entertainment.
